Seaham based business cost reduction consultancy Great Annual Savings Group (GAS) is gearing up for a year of significant expansion after moving into new state of the art premises.
The company, based at Spectrum Business Park in Seaham, has moved its fast-growing team into Spectrum 7 after securing a grant from the County Durham Growth Fund.
Although the move was slightly delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, which meant changes to the internal fit-out had to be conducted to make the building Covid-safe, the company and it’s 400-plus workforce are now fully settled into their new headquarters.
Craig Shields, Operations Director at GAS, was one of the project leads on the move.
He said: “It has been a whirlwind 2021 so far. After significant Covid safety investment and expansion in our previous premises at Spectrum 6, we finally moved into our new Sea View headquarters at Spectrum 7 on our return from the Christmas break.
“The project to create the new building was more than a year in length, but the finished product is an incredible workplace for our colleagues and has already gained award nominations for its unique offering.
“We have our GASTRO catering facility with in-house Costa Coffee and Executive Chef team serving up daily specials for subsidised prices. We have our GASFIT functional fitness gym and team of fitness experts delivering personalised programmes for every colleague. GASGAME is opening soon with Playstation 5s, table tennis, retro arcade machines and pool tables for social use.
“Aside from these features, the building is also packed with character and is influenced by local County Durham and Sunderland heritage. Our colleagues’ finest photography adorns the walls and we have the indoor garden area within GASTRO.
“We have digital detox zones, interactive Think Tank meeting rooms and kitchen areas on every floor with wearable tech to give colleagues access to rooms and equipment, which also enhances our safety processes.
“The whole building is Covid-compliant with each desk enclosed by branded safety screens, regular sterilisation stations and a dedicated cleaning team who sweep the entire building several times per day.
“We have built something to attract and enrich and we are already seeing the benefits with recognition from Glassdoor. We were named joint second on their list of best work-life balance employers in the UK.”
The County Durham Growth Fund is managed by UMi on behalf of Business Durham with funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). All successful grants applications are appraised by UNW LLP, an independent firm of chartered accountants and business advisers.
Sarah Slaven, Managing Director at Business Durham, said: “Great Annual Savings Group is now one of County Durham’s most high profile and fastest-growing employers and with the move into new headquarters, which has been supported with a grant from the County Durham Growth Fund , the company is ideally placed to achieve the ambitious plans which the management team has unveiled.”
Simon Allen, Investment Centre Director at UMi, said: “The County Durham Growth Fund was created to support the area’s flagship employers, those larger companies which underpin our economy.
“It’s been a challenging 16 months for many businesses so I’m delighted that Great Annual Savings Group has pushed ahead with the move into bigger premises and continued to recruit, keeping them firmly on track to achieve the projections linked to the project.”
Since launching the County Durham Growth Fund has supported the creation of over 500 jobs, thanks to £5.4m of grant investment committed to businesses in the area.
John Healey, Corporate Finance Partner at UNW LLP, said: “The new headquarters are seriously high end and unique in the marketplace and will certainly enhance the large-scale recruitment drive GAS is currently undertaking.”
